Simon Littlewood is Lead Consultant Orthodontist at Bradford Teaching Hospitals, UK, and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leeds, and maintains a small private practice.
He has published widely and written several book chapters, and is one of the authors of the best-selling textbook “An Introduction to Orthodontics”. He has also written and appeared in educational videos for interviewing, assessments in orthodontics and promoting the importance of retention for patients and the dental profession.
Dr Littlewood co-founded the UK’s first Orthodontic Therapy Course in 2007 with Trevor Hodge and is still one of the co-Directors of the Yorkshire Orthodontic Therapy Course. He has previously held senior leadership roles in the UK, including Honorary Secretary of the British Orthodontic Society, Chairman of the National Membership of Faculty of Dentistry Exam Royal College of Surgeons of England, Chair Examiners of ISFE in Orthodontics, and Chair of the British Orthodontic Conference. In 2025 he was awarded a lifetime membership of British Orthodontic Society in recognition of his contribution to UK orthodontics.
He has been invited to speak at various international congresses, including the AAO in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and the Asian-Pacific Conference 2015 & 2017 & 2024 and was honoured to be invited as a keynote speaker at the WFO International Orthodontic congresses in Sydney in 2010, London in 2015 and Brazil 2025. In 2015 he was the Keith Godfrey Visiting Professor for the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2017 he was awarded a visiting professorship for the University of Malaya in Malaysia and in 2019 he was awarded the Jan Taylor Lectureship for the Australian Society of Orthodontics Research and Education. He has also been external examiner at University of Leeds, University of Glasgow, Trinity College Dublin, University of Manchester, Edge Hill University, University of Malaya and University of Sydney.
He is a sought-after lecturer, both nationally and internationally in over 40 countries, and has a specialist interest in orthodontic retention, randomised controlled clinical trials and evidence-based orthodontics. He aims to make his lectures entertaining, while discussing high quality research, and importantly, how to translate it into real-life clinical orthodontic practice.
