This webinar aims to explore how skeletal anchorage can expand the orthodontist’s ability to manage Class III skeletal discrepancies—particularly those traditionally considered surgical cases. Emphasis will be placed on optimising biomechanics, minimising dental side effects, and achieving clinically meaningful skeletal correction during growth.
By presenting contemporary appliance designs, treatment protocols, and long-term follow-ups, the webinar will demonstrate how complex Class III malocclusions can, in selected patients, be transformed into predictable, non-surgical treatment outcomes.
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Identify suitable Class III patients who may benefit from early orthopaedic intervention using skeletal anchorage, particularly in cases of maxillary retrognathia.
2. Assess dental compensation and skeletal discrepancy, and determine the required magnitude of maxillary advancement needed to achieve functional and aesthetic correction.
3. Design and construct skeletal anchorage–based appliances, including appropriate anchorage positioning, force vectors, and appliance configuration to meet specific treatment objectives.
4. Implement and manage treatment protocols, including appliance activation, patient instructions, monitoring of progress, and management of common technical or biomechanical challenges.
5. Evaluate treatment outcomes and long-term prognosis through clinical records, cephalometric analysis, and follow-up data, with a focus on stability and relapse prevention.
Dr Salah Abbas is a specialist orthodontist based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a strong focus on biomechanics, growth modification, and skeletal anchorage. He graduated from the postgraduate Orthodontics programme at the University of Copenhagen, where he now serves as a clinical teacher and supervisor, with particular emphasis on biomechanics, skeletal anchorage, and growth-related treatment strategies.
Salah is part of the teaching staff in the postgraduate department for orthodontics in Copenhagen University, the head of Copenhagen’s largest public orthodontic clinics, responsible for the orthodontic treatment of nearly half of the city’s child and young population. In parallel, he collaborates closely with the Orthognathic Surgery Department at Køge Regional Hospital, where his clinical work includes early interceptive Class III treatment protocols based on skeletal anchorage. This dual role has provided him with extensive insight into treatment timing, long-term outcomes, and stability in complex Class III cases.
In addition to his public and hospital work, Salah practices part-time in private practice, with a focus on adult orthodontics and periodontally compromised patients through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Skeletal anchorage and orthodontic biomechanics have been central to Salah’s professional work since 2006. He lectures nationally and internationally, sharing clinically driven, evidence-based protocols and practical insights, including common pitfalls and how to avoid them. His approach combines mechanical precision with biological understanding to achieve predictable and stable outcomes.
